We wonder why?

BBQ

What a scorcher 29 degrees – definitely BBQ weather. It was so hot that even the Wilt had to retire to the confines of his air-conditioned car. Any excuse going out and getting yet another bottle of milk! The evening being a bit cooler, although not much, has caused the BBQ to again be dusted off and fired up. And the same weather forecast tomorrow – Salty Dog will be back in the fishpond, yet again!

Meanwhile Calleja has accessed Regulator Watch multiple times – what is wrong with the woman?

Oooopes – time to turn over the burgers and sausages.

We do rather think that the unions are walking into a trap – the Tory’s are just waiting to pounce with new, and Wilt believes welcome, new legislation to curtail the unions – Milliband, Balls, Tony Blair and others have warned them. See article here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/8599446/Michael-Gove-warns-teachers-against-militancy-ahead-of-planned-strike.html

Gove, as Mrs Wilt cares to refer to him as ‘looking like a schoolboy’, aint no idiot, nor are Milliband, Blair or Balls. Neither are the public who, like Wilt, are pissed off big time over the excessive benefits afforded public sector workers.

Bring it on unions! You aint seen nothing yet, believe me.

Rieth

Wilt was invited to give a Rieth Lecture (if you believe that you are daft) but due to other prior agreed commitments he was forced to decline. You could possibly however imagine a Wilt Rieth lecture full of expletives and endless ranting. However we shall leave it to Aung Sang Suu Kyi to fill his place – she probably has a little more qualifications than Wilt to deliver a meaningful message.

But, you never know, Wilt might yet get this accolade!

Some sad news here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-13914522 and the same story in the Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/8598838/Boy-13-charged-with-murder-of-Lanarkshire-woman-34.html and in the Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2008238/Boy-13-charged-murder-killing-foster-mother-stab-attack.html

The latter is implying that the 13 year old may be a foster child.

Meanwhile also in the news Huhne is hitting the headlines again as first revealed by Guido last night http://order-order.com/2011/06/25/police-getting-tape-signed-statement-from-vicky-pryce/

More details are here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-13918109

In the mean time Shoesmith is also in the news facing a potential appeal: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13905290 Wilt aint so sure Gove or Balls will be allowed to appeal and if they are, then it is far from certain they would win it. It is worthwhile remembering that she won her appeal on the grounds that the process of her sacking was unfair, not whether she could or should have been sacked.

On a lighter note Salopian picked up on this ‘Old Tosser’ story in his local area. See here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-shropshire-13900782

Victory of Sorts

24-06-11

Dearest Wilt

Your prediction was correct: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-13905201 The Conservatives have won again, although it is a minor victory.

We see you have picked up on the Wolverhampton case – it is not such a bad place you know.

The people are largely poor, it is high density and of a highly mixed ethnic/cultural diversity, with a great deal of poverty by UK standards. However, we agree that all the agencies should have prevented this child death. I also agree the Wolverhampton website is ugly – the people however are generally sound of heart and good natured. We know this from personal experience.

Community Care

24-06-11

Wilt Portfolio

Wilt Portfolio

It seems Community Care (http://www.communitycare.co.uk/Home/) are not only a soapbox for Unison but becoming a partner with the union – is that representative of social work?

Whatever happened to the campaign ‘Stand Up For Social Work’ promulgated by the magazine for social care workers.

See the article here: http://www.communitycare.co.uk/Articles/2011/06/20/117043/How-pension-reform-will-affect-Unison-social-care-members.htm

Wilt Portfolio

Wilt Portfolio

Even its own survey of web readers indicates an almost 50% of local government staff will not leave the pension scheme if required to pay a higher contribution to the local authority scheme. Yet the magazine promulgates news of impending disaster.

What will be a disaster is if those disgruntled staff decide to leave the pension scheme – a disaster for them that is because they will not find anything better in the pensions market; indeed they will be shocked by what their contemporaries can get in a private pension scheme.

Wilt Portfolio

Wilt Portfolio

If however they do leave – have a poor retirement fund and hence poor retirement; good luck.

However, back to Community Care magazine, the publication not for social workers, although Wilt admits he will continue to exploit their free news stories online to feed this blog.

The hard copy of the magazine is an anorexic version of its former self these days and Wilt is thinking of cancelling his subscription – is it really worth £22.50 per year?

The editorial is not wonderful, little in the way of news and certainly no one very much seems to be advertising with them these days. Perhaps they are getting union funding to carry on? Some of its reporters are tossers whilst some of its bloggers are a bit more in touch with the real world.

Some social workers and social care staff might not actually support Unison – have Community Care thought of that? How does the magazine support them, we wonder?

After BASW, Community Care magazine are about the worst example of poor representative views of social workers, worse even than Unison – all three of them have a common interest however – self preservation above all else.

Role on the College of Social Work (the proper one) – they surely cannot be worse?

Incompetence

24-06-11

Wilt Portfolio

Wilt Portfolio

This is not good: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-13892076

Clearly lessons have not been learned following the deaths of Baby Pater and Climbe, and a whole host of other child death case matters that precede them. It is unacceptable and putting it down to poor communication, albeit a convenient press headline, is simply misleading. Clearly the BBC article points to individual failings among professionals, and indeed by the mother. Where was her family, or indeed the father of the child? As the serious Case Review (SCR) indicates, this child death was avoidable. One worker whose task it was to support the murderers was ill equipped or qualified to perform her role and did not challenge obvious concerns as this would have conflicted with her focus and interfere in the relationship! Never mind the child, darling! Twat.

But then what were the managers doing?

Wilt Portfolio

Wilt Portfolio

It is the age old story that professionals are either fearful of parents or are distracted by them – the child is not the centre of concern. What is wrong with these people? And if anyone mentions lack of resources they should have their bollocks cut off. This is not a resource issue, it is incompetence.

A Community Care article is here: http://www.communitycare.co.uk/Articles/2011/06/23/117063/childrens-services-partly-to-blame-over-toddlers-death.htm

Wilt took a look at the Wolverhampton City website: http://www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/ which apart from being the ugliest website ever (similar to the city itself – almost as bad as Coventry) has a link to the Summary SCR.

Wilt once took a wrong turning and arrived in Wolverhampton via Bilston – what a fucking shithole of a place.

It seems being a complete idiot is not reserved to a certain former Scottish Prime ‘Mentalist’ (Minister) as Guido refers to him. It seems just over the border in Northumberland some visitors to Lindisfarne (Holy Island) do not have many brain cells to call upon: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-13830017

Who gives birth to these people?

However that part of the far north east coast is well worth a visit with wonderful beaches, country piles, castles and excellent real ale.

Just take note of the signposts!

Death Sentence

24-06-11

Wilt Portfolio

Wilt Portfolio

This is why we need the death sentence reintroduced into the UK: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-13903710. You could of course add numerous child killers – that would make some rooms available in the prisons.

Enough said, we think.
