all "quangoed" out………….

It takes no bear with a big brain to work out that social services are over-inspected or that there is more emphasis and comparative funding levels to Ofsted and other quango by Government. Inspection is of course important, but you could cut by ¾ the funding of those agencies and transfer staff to the front line and get a much better result.

I think this is the basic message of John Coughlan in this Community Care article:

http://www.communitycare.co.uk/Articles/2009/10/21/112929/ofsted-must-rethink-how-it-inspects-childrens-services.html

John it must be said has done well since those early days of observing him as an eager frontline social worker. He has deserved his spurs through hard work and leadership qualities.

I think he must just have a point – less quango, more players on the pitch. And get real about what can be achieved.

We are monitoring John on his progress, now in Hampshire but having hitherto moved to wherever his next career jump permits him.
