The GSCC (www.gscc.org.co.uk) are not well known for their transparency at the best of times. At one time the front of their website used to list up and coming Conduct Hearings but have not done so for months, indeed probably for over twelve months.

You can find upcoming, past and archived details here, if you are interested:

http://www.gscc.org.uk/Conduct/Conduct_hearings/

What is odd, Community Care do not advertise them either.

Very curious!??? Wilt must ask both (CC and GSCC) to comment on this fundimental oversight

Job Prospects

10-07-09

In the Telegraph on Wednesday it is reported that Health & Social Care are among the most secure jobs open to employees – See the article here:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/jobs/5785538/UK-jobs-the-top-10-sectors-to-be-in.html

Seems like job security in social work is a given. And there I was looking for early retirement!

quango review

06-07-09

Well, thank Gawd – but Wilt hopes the Tory Leader will come up with the goods and abolish or restrict the number of unaccountable agencies who regulate our existence. Quangos are the UK equivalent of the European Union – draining scarce resources and making the UK elected Parliament unaccountable. In addition their cost is phenomenal and Gawd knows what expenses and salaries they claim?

Abduction!

05-07-09

I despair. Yet another article bashing social workers. See here:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/christopherbooker/5743419/Is-the-state-guilty-of-child-kidnap.html

However, Wilt aint so convinced on this story as yet. Further news to follow.

There are some good people in the political class and Wilt intends to highlight some of them. Read and see interviews with some of those Wilt thinks merit the test of reasonableness, whatever that means!

BASW

02-07-09

Hilton Dawson is the new CEO of BASW

Let us just hope that the new BASW CEO is a whole lot better than the last one, who despite his role was not always social care friendly.

Hilton Dawson, a former Labour MP and qualified social worker replaces Ian Hamish Johnston as the head of BASW (British Association of Social Workers) www.basw.co.uk who are the long established but somewhat ‘lost the plot’ (in my opinion) organisation to front the qualified element of social care.

I had a celebration drink when Johnston left BASW – Dawson is hopefully not going to be an utter Dork. He is on probation!

Be assured Wilt is on the look-out for performance.
